SCMHRD offers a two-year full-time residential Master in Business Administration (MBA) comprising four semester and a thirty month non-residential Executive Master in Business Administration (Exe-MBA) evening program comprising five semester. Q. Are these programs recognized? A. Both the programs offered are approved by AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education). SCMHRD is an institute of the prestigious Symbiosis family and is a constituent of the Symbiosis International University established under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956, by notification No. F.9-12/2006 U.3 of Government of India Q. What are the specializations that I am offered? A. SCMHRD does not follow a conventional approach of Major and Minor subject of specialization. We have a system where each center of excellence offers elective subjects to choose from in the second, third and fourth semester. Students are free to choose any subjects from the offered list of subjects across various centers of excellence irrespective of any restrictions. Q. Which are the various centers of excellence? A.
Q. How is it decided which area of these do I finally pursue my career in? A. You decide that based on your Functional Area. The area which has highest numbers of credits worth courses that you opt and complete determines your Functional Area 1 and Functional Area 2. Students would pursue their careers in based in these. Q. How is SCMHRD different from other Symbiosis institutes? A. SCMHRD has aimed itself to be known as a knowledge center. We have differed ourselves in the way we deliver education and our approach towards it. We believe in students learning rather than we teach. Our program focus lies in building proficiency in quantitative skills and in technology, along with core business concepts. The various approaches to learning include traditional classroom instructions, case studies, role-plays, simulations, videos and field trips. The emphasis is on self-study and collaboration. This gives the student a unique blend of conceptual knowledge, corporate exposure, and interpersonal skills development giving students an edge in business performance. Q What is the structure of SCMHRD’s MBA program? A. Our MBA program commences each year in the month of April in the form of a Foundation Course. This is a pre-joining online course offered as an e-learning module to all students, The objective to do this course is to bridge the diversity across various educational background amongst students and familiarize them with the courses they would be offered in the first semester. Many concepts that the students has already learned in this previous educational activity are also previewed. Students join campus in the first week of June and start with First Semester and proceed with second semester in November. In April-May, students go for a two-month summer-internship program with reputed companies in India and abroad. They start with their third semester in June and Forth semester in November. Course ends in March and convocation is held in third week of April. Q. How do I apply to SCMHRD? A. To apply to any full-time post-graduate course offered by Symbiosis International University, candidates need to appear for a combined entrance test called the Symbiosis National Aptitute (SNAP) test. This test is conducted on third Sunday of December each year. Apart from applying, candidates need to purchase the prospectus of individual institutes that they intend to apply for and wait for a GD/PI call. Q. How may people apply to SCMHRD and how may are given calls for GD/PI? A. More than 20,000 candidates apply to SCMHRD. We give calls to approximately 5% of total applicants, which are around 2000 candidates. Q. What is the basis on which SCMHRD gives calls to candidates? A. SCMHRD has a unique method of selecting candidates for GD/PI. We follow a system called as Selective Meriting, where apart from the SNAP score, we give weightages to past academic performances, work-experience (if any), professional and other qualifications, extra-curricular performances etc. In general, the entire profile of the candidate is considerd before giving a GD/PI call. Q. How many seats does SCMHRD have and what are the reservations? A. We have a total of 240 seats for our MBA program. Reservations are as follows – • Schedule Caste – 15% • Schedule Tribe – 7.5% • Sponsored Category – 15% • Physically handicapped – 3% (blind, hearing impaired (Deaf/dumb) mentally retarded or those with orthopedic disorders) • International Students – 15% (over and above the intake) • Kashmiri Migrants - 2 seats (over and above the intake) Q. What is the fees for the course and what all does it include? A. Fees for the course for MBA Batch 08-10 will be Rs, 2,75,000 per annum. It includes education fees, hostel fess, mess fees (breakfast, lunch and dinner), books, uniforms etc. Q. Is is mandatory to stay in the hostel itself? A. Yes. The MBA program is completely residential and students need to stay in the college hostel itself. Q. Is it mandatory to have a laptop? Q. Yes, it is mandatory to have a laptop for all programs offered at SCMHRD. Students are free to get their own laptops while joining. However, SCMHRD negotiates with various laptop manufacturers each year for best deal. These manufacturers present their product to students and make their offers. Students then choose the best possible offers and finalize the deal. The advantage of this is that students get the benefit of bulk purchase. Cost of the laptop comes down by almost 20% or more of the market price. Also the vendors offer a daily on-campus service making maintenance very easy. Hence this is a recommended option. In the year 2007, laptops within a range of 45,000 to 55,000 were offered. Q. Does SCMHRD offer a loan facility for its students? A. SCMHRD has a tie-up with State Bank of India (SBI) where students can avail loan amounting upto 95% of your course fees and full laptop charges. SBI charged 11.25% interest rate for students of Batch 07-09 which is less than the market interest rate for educational loans. Students have various options to repay this loan which extends to as long as 6 years after placement.
